Sorry Tumblr

…But our days are numbered. You’re cool and hip, yes, but you’re like the gas station down the street from the gas station I generally just opt to go to because it’s easier (or I’m lazy), one of those. As proof, I may have like what 20 posts total since I started in 2007, and I just can’t bring myself to come here to talk about shit. I have a few private posts, few stories, I’ll snatch off here in the coming days, and go ahead and close it down. We both knew it wasn’t going to work. It’s not you, it’s me, everything is me.

The Witch of The Cypress Swamp

The Witch of The Cypress Swamp

I can’t remember what I was doing earlier when I remembered this one strange evening back in April 2005 when I saw something rather odd by myself driving down route 54. The event is a true story.

I was on my way to spend the night in Magnolia, Delaware. I was helping my best friend Steffi and her best friend Monica babysit Steffi’s mother’s friend’s dog. She was out of town and the two girls had the lady’s house and adjacent hot tub at their disposal. Steffi offered to let me join them and it was going to be a fun night of reviewing modeling photos I had taken of Steffi earlier the night before at my house, dipping in the hot tub with two very attractive women and watching movies late into the night.

The house was in a respectable neighborhood off route 13, near Polytech High School. Normally I’d travel up route 113, and cut across down Hardscrabble Road to Seaford, Delaware. But that evening I chose to take route 54 deciding it less mundane than the endless fields of Hardscrabble, as route 54 cuts through the Cypress Swamp. I’d then hit Delmar, Delaware and shoot up route 13 to Magnolia.

The Cypress Swamp is a foreboding place in broad daylight, and at night it can be enchantingly scary. I once went through the swamp during a vivid lightning storm and it was an awesome experience. The thought of a deer running out at point blank range, the misfortune of a flat tire or worse, mechanical troubles never stray from the mind as one leaves the outskirts of Selbyville, Delaware and turns onto Cypress Road. I’m also sure the multiple 1 DUI Killed Here signs help convince one of the swamps evil intent. As I found out that night, it’s even possible for something stranger to occur. I remember arriving late, around 12am, so I was most likely penetrating the swamp at around 10:45pm. Even at that hour, in April, that stretch of route 54 is sparsely traveled. I don’t remember passing any cars, nor do I remember seeing any cars on the side of the road, outside or through the swamp.

I entered the outer shell of the swamp, when the first cypress trees are passed to the right of the highway, and one last glimpse of open field becomes swallowed by a more solid menacing overhang of trees, which canopy and cloak even the fullest moon’s light for around eight painstaking minutes. The limbs of the trees seem to be intertwined and woven, too tangled to ever be broken and time seems to stand still in the heart of the vegetation. I came around the first good bend working my way deeper into the swamps labyrinth and about halfway through the next bend I noticed something odd up ahead on the left hand side of the highway. It was a person walking toward me. My first thinking was someone had broken down and was walking to the nearest house to use a phone, but as I passed this figure I was surprised to see it was a woman dressed in a black gown and with a pointed hat. She had shoulder length black or brown hair and stared at me blankly as I passed her. I remember being physically bothered by this disturbing sight even though at that point I had convinced myself she was merely dressed for the occasion, and was probably one of several teenagers up to some sort of mischief within the barrier of the swamp. But why was she alone? Why was she traveling the road at this hour? Where was her car? Before I had time to really comprehend what I had seen, she was swallowed by darkness and and I was going around the next turn.

I was thoroughly spooked out by the event, and eventually went on to a fairly fun night in Magnolia, forgetting to bring up the event to Steffi or Monica and eventually forgetting it entirely until tonight. What was she doing there, and was it more than someone causing mischief? Could it have been the spirit of a witch, traveling the lonely road through what was once a much larger and denser swamp? I’ll never truly know for sure, but if one happens to drive the sobering stretch of route 54 at around 11pm, and see’s a witch walking along the side of the road, there may be more to the legend than just a good camp fire tale.

Don’t Make This A Habit…Like All Of Your Other Habits…

Third night in a row with less then two hours of sleep before work in the morning. Tomorrow I really need some sleep.

Totally loopy and trashed. Anna is not impressed.

Ligne Roset Ads

If it comes with the model I’ll take it. The puzzle piece couch is pretty bad ass, though if it slides apart easy it would be kind of annoying laying on it. The shelve would be a great piece for organizing books by subject like non-fiction, or birds, etc, or great for knick-knacks.

Lost Record To Be Released

On November 21st Louis Schwartz announced he would finally finish the infamous double album Thinking of spring, which he feverishly worked to complete in 2009, then for unknown reasons, shelved the record for over two years. It was Louis’ first completed record since his very first release, Verdant, in 2005. The record will finally see the light of day, after Louis finishes the mastering and final recorded tracks for the various songs. Louis hopes to have to record complete by Christmas, 2011. Due to a recent injury to his right arm, Louis will not be recording new material for Cross Pollinated as well as his new band with lyricist Ayla Turner, called The Paradise Syndrome, until he can properly use his arm again. Louis and Ayla are also contributing material as well as lyrics for musician and band teacher, Eric Tsavdar’s long anticipated rock opera, Dr. Ghost. “I’m excited to help Eric on his play, I’ve been a firm believer in his work, and have been thrilled that he finally plans to get the ball rolling with Dr. Ghost. It’s an astounding story and Eric is an amazing song writer. This is probably the most anticipated project that I’ve had a hand in with Eric, and I can’t wait to see the play finally unfold.”

Louis Schwartz: The End of an Era

February 8, 2011-

Louis Schwartz, whom alluded to Sitting Pretty possibly being his last demo indefinitely, confirmed on Monday that SP will in fact be it for some time. Louis previously had announced the release of an earlier demo called Thinking of spring about a year ago, but pulled out for unknown reasons at the time. “I liked the idea, the atmosphere of the record, but there were too many things I thought I could improve, I’m not a perfectionist, but I like things to be a certain way. By the time I summoned up the interest to revamp the work, I was moving on to Sitting Pretty. Then I decided, maybe I was through for a while.” he explained. “Writing music is a seriously difficult and honest activity. Like, you wouldn’t want the public or your fan-base in on your personal affairs with your girlfriend or your family, for example, but that’s really what your doing, you’re bleeding, ripping open scars that have barely healed and it takes its toll on you. Then one day you wake up and you just can’t do it anymore, you can’t access that part of you, because you’re deteriorating from the stress it causes.”

“I would like to keep playing music, and I’ve learned to accept what I’ve written in a neutral aspect, so it doesn’t hurt to play those tunes like it hurts to find a new lyric or statement or sound-go digging.” he spoke openly. Louis recently formulated a new group together with keyboardist Eric Tsavdar, called Dorothy. “Working with Eric is a lot of fun, sometimes I have a riff, or he has a melody; sometimes we have whole songs, other times we have nothing. But predominantly, the most exciting aspect is that I share writing responsibilities with him, Eric wouldn’t let me beat myself up over something like I would writing alone stewing in my own discord. I’m learning to discuss those hard topics with a newer twist, so there’s less opportunity to wallow in a feeling. But for the most part, I just don’t have to always touch up on me, like I feel the need to do as a solo artist, there’s just as good a chance we could write about someone’s day on the subway in New York, as there is a chance of it being about something in my own life. That’s a lot of freedom.”

“I wanted Sitting Pretty to be a celebration of those who have influenced me. I wanted it to be like, hey we had great times, we had horrible times, but we still have time. I even wanted my ex to like it, you know? None of that stupid, let’s see how I can smear things around some more mentality, I wanted her to say, I don’t know how to feel about you still, but hey this was a pretty good gesture, the songs were in good taste. I wanted it to click with my friends, and my family. But things fell apart in the middle and the record still had that feel, but it was marred, with the loss of a friendship. I don’t really like those songs now. There’s a few on there I’m really proud of, but it literally went from not being like every other demo to being the epitome record. It was a huge disappointment in my book.”

So whats next for Louis?

“We’re currently working in the studio at DSU for material for a Dorothy release. It’s not a race, and I have no idea when any one thing will be released at this point, but we have a lot of great ideas, a few finished tracks, and some working in progress, so in my book were making great progress. I also hope to work on a few tracks with lead singer of Transposed, Mike Coffin, at Sound Barn Studio. I’ve even thought about a one-off project writing a couple new songs that have little or nothing to do with me, I thought Anthologia would be a great title for the idea. And anyone who is a fan of my solo work or work as the Lions with drummer Rob Colone, can still see us play. So it’s really not the end. I just need a long break from me.”

On February 10, 2011, Louis announced he was through writing demos, and stated Sitting Pretty would get shelved, with only a handful of tracks possibly being leaked. Louis’ solo career spanned nearly five years.
